Sonics compete in PH caging

The 670 Sonics are now in the Philippines, playing in the Inaugural 670 Sonics-Laguna Philippines Friendship Basketball Tournament.

The competition started last Saturday and will run until today in the southern part of the Philippines with the visiting Sonics challenging three collegiate and one high school teams.

The Sonics are represented in the three-day tournament by Jack Aranda, Jaymark De Guzman, Emerson Feria, Erick Dela Rosa, Gerald Flores, Sean Rabasto, Mike Espinosa, Jun Fidelino, Mike Arciaga, Prince Factor, and Djaymarch Ong. Sonics founder Jesse Tudela is the team’s head coach and is joined on the PH trip by coach Omar Ajoste, Sonics board president Francis Mendiola, vice president Fred Salavaria, and member Val Mendiola.

“All 11 players and the 670 Sonics Basketball Association officers and board have been fundraising for the last eight months for this tournament after getting an invitation from former Saipan resident and referee Eric Artillaga. We, the 670 Sonics Basketball Association want to extend a huge appreciation to all of our following donors: First Lady Dianne Torres, Rep. Angel Demapan, Rep. Vinnie Sablan, Rep. Ed Propst, Rep. Edmund Villagomez, Sen. Sixto Igisomar, Rep. BJ Attao, PHI Pharmacy, Best Sunshine, Pacific Islands Club, Pizza Hut, WE>1 Clothing, Island Brand Clothing, Balas Brand Clothing, Rep. Joseph Deleon Guerrero, and Abner Venus,” Tudela said in an email to Saipan Tribune.

“We also want to thank all of the 670 Sonics Basketball players in all divisions and their family for their support throughout the fundraisers. We will represent and be CNMI ambassadors while at the same time show PH that our CNMI players can play ball,” the head coach added. (PR)
