Sobriety checkpoints on Saipan, Rota
The Highway Patrol Section of the Department of Public Safety will be setting up sobriety checkpoints on Saipan this week and next week.
On Saturday, Aug. 26, the first setup is from 6pm to 9pm, covering the area from Beach Road, Garapan to Beach Road, Chalan Kanoa.
The second setup from 10pm. to 12am will cover the area from Chalan Monsignor Guerrero, San Jose to Chalan Monsignor Guerrero, Dandan.
On Wednesday next week, Aug. 30, the first setup from 7:30pm to 9:30pm will cover the area from Beach Road, Garapan to Beach Road, San Antonio.
The second setup from 10:30pm to 12:30am will cover the highway from Chalan Pale Arnold in Puerto Rico to Chalan Pale Arnold, Chalan Laulau.
On Sept. 2, the first setup from 6:30pm to 8:20pm will cover the area from Chalan Pale Arnold in Garapan to Chalan Pale Arnold in Chalan Laulau.
A second setup from 9:30pm to 11:30pm will cover the area from Chalan Monsignor Guerrero in San Jose to Dandan.
Each checkpoint will last at least 75 minutes (one hour and 15 minutes). This activity is part of the department’s effort to deter, detect and apprehend impaired drivers, and to ensure that all passengers are wearing proper restraining devices, seatbelts, or car seats.
Rota DPS will also be conducting DUI/sobriety checkpoints next week.
On Aug. 29, the first setup is from 7pm to 8:15pm along the San Francisco highway Guata area. The second setup is from 11pm to 12:15am along the San Francisco highway Sonton area .
On Aug. 31, the first setup from 7pm to 8:15pm will be along the San Francisco Highway Lotgan area. The second setup from 11pm to 12:15am will be along the San Francisco highway Tatgua area.
On Sept. 1, the first setup from 7pm to 8:15pm will be along San Francisco Highway by Sinapalo 3. The second setup from 11pm to 12:15am will be along San Francisco Highway by the Pinatang Park.
Each checkpoint will last at least 75 minutes.
Traffic and patrol officers will also be conducting highway criminal interdictions, saturation patrols, aggressive driver interdictions, and laser (speed detection) enforcement.
