SNILD assures $3M allocation for PSS

Top leaders of both the Public School System and the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation met yesterday on Capital Hill to talk about giving PSS more funds to ensure the smooth resumption of classes.

Public school classes started last Tuesday to begin school year 2019-2020.

The delegation reassured public education officials that it will earmark $3 million to PSS to pay for critical vendor services and other needs.

At the meeting, which was called yesterday at 11:30am by delegation chair Rep. John Paul P. Sablan (R-Saipan), both Board of Education chair Janice Marie A. Tenorio and Education Commissioner Glenn P. Muña thanked the delegation for working with them in the last two weeks to help address the funding needs of PSS.

The meeting was also attended by delegation vice chair Rep. Roman Benavente (R-Saipan) and Speaker Blas Jonathan Attao (R-Saipan), Vice Speaker Lorenzo Deleon Guerrero (R-Saipan), Reps. Ivan Alafanso Blanco (R-Saipan), Joel C. Camacho (R-Saipan), Luis John Castro (R-Saipan), and Jose Itibus (R-Saipan).

Tenorio and Muña also intend to reach out to the Rota and Tinian legislative delegations for funding assistance. (PR)
