The Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation approved during their session last July 14 a measure that appropriates over $1.9 million in poker fees to several government entities and programs.

The delegation unanimously voted to pass House Speaker Blas Jonathan “BJ” Attao’s (R-Saipan) House Local Bill 21-24 after a few tweaks.

The bill appropriates $1.96 million in poker fees collected from Saipan Local Law 11-2.

The bill appropriates $470,001 to the Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance program; $10,000 to the Saipan Little League; $180,000 to the Saipan Zoning Office for its operations and procurement of a vehicle; $400,000 to the Saipan Mayor’s Office for operations and the procurement of a 10-cubic-yard truck and a new vehicle; $83,000 to the Northern Islands Mayor’s Office for a new vehicle; $39,000 to the Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council’s purchase of a new vehicle; $500,000 to the Northern Marianas College for personnel costs for Saipan employees; $250,000 to the Public School System; $7,000 to the Saipan Fishing Association for the 35th annual Fishing Derby; and $23,000 to the Saipan Agricultural Fair Association for the upcoming annual Agricultural Fair.

Attao introduced an amendment to his bill to include appropriations for PSS, the SFA, and the Agricultural Fair and was further amended through a subsidiary amendment offered by vice speaker Lorenzo I. Deleon Guerrero (R-Saipan) to adjust the amounts.
