A small craft advisory has been declared for the Marianas starting last night.

Based on the information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center State Warning Point, a shear line pushing down from north of Saipan will bring periods of fresh to strong easterly winds starting last night and lasting into the weekend.

The advisory is in effect on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota coastal waters from 10am Friday to late Saturday night.

According to the NWS projection at 5:30pm yesterday, east winds will be 20 to 25 knots, while seas will be between 8 and 9 feet. Conditions will be hazardous to small craft.

The CNMI Emergency Operations Center State Warning Point is advising the public and inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, to avoid sailing in these conditions. (PR)
