The year started slow for the CNMI sports community as only the regular competitions on the island kicked off 2012 with games last week.
In the 2011 DLX Basketball Invitational Friendship League, eight teams played in the first round of the playoffs and four were left standing after last Friday’s matches. Making it to the semifinals are MDX/Blue Haus, Blue Haus/Satbahi, Wushin Express, and SCS Heavy Equipment Rental. MDX defeated Pacific Postal, while Blue Haus prevailed over FGC in the first two playoff games. Wushin Express and SCS downed Sherwin Williams and 8th Division in the two remaining playoff matches.
Still in basketball, U12, U15, and U17 teams competed in the first weekend of the 2nd Annual RBC-IT&E Christmas Basketball Tournament at the Garapan Basketball Court. Docomo Rollers led in the U15 division, while Rollers AA and Proa A were in the Top 2 in the U17 age group. Only two teams were entered in the U12 division in Rollers A and Rollers AA.
Age group competitions in the 2011 Saipan Soccer School Youth Futsal League also continued at the TSL Sports Complex last week.
In the boys U18, IT&E took the spot, while Astig Futsal also remained on top in the girls U17. Konflikt and Astig Futsal are battling it out for the lead in the boys U15.
