SLLB starts preparation for 2018 season
The Saipan Little League Baseball has begun its preparation for the upcoming 2018 season as the group held a meeting last Saturday at the pavilion behind the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
SLLB player agent Piding Tenorio said that 18 teams, spread out in the five divisions, have signed up for this season. Minors (8 to 9 years old), Majors (10-12), 50-70 (13), Junior (13-14), and Senior (15-16) are the age divisions.
“This year, we’re starting with the Minor for 8 to 9-year olds at it will be interesting to see the kids play. So far, we’re expecting three teams in the Minors. But we’re still accepting teams that want to join,” said Tenorio.
SLLB returning president Mike Borja said the managers meeting last Saturday was held for them to have an idea on how many teams will join this season’s competition.
“So we could plan the schedule of games since we need to also prepare for the [district and Asia-Pacific] tournaments. We’re also going to start preparing the [Miguel Basa Pangelinan] field by January. We’re going to work with [Northern Marianas Sports Association] personnel just like we did during the ASPAC here on Saipan,” Borja said.
“We’re expecting a lot of renovation here at the sports complex, so we have come up with a backup plan of using the Capital Hill Ballfield. That is one of our alternatives, an option for us. We also encourage the business community for their continued support to the program.”
Games will be held every Saturdays and Sundays.
Former SLL president A.J. Murig is this year’s vice president with Malcolm Omar as secretary, while Annie Flores returns as the treasurer to join Borja and Tenorio on the SLLB board.
