Skymark’s summer charters start today
Skymark Airlines Inc.’s 15 charter flights from the Narita International Airport in Tokyo to the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport will start today, Friday.
Skymark will operate the charter flights daily on Aug. 9 to 17 and Sept. 20 to 25, using a B737-800 plane for the charters, which has 177 Economy Class seats. Five travel agencies that successfully sold Skymark charter flights last March and April are again selling the August and September flights.
Commonwealth Ports Authority board chair Kimberlyn King-Hinds said yesterday that CPA is happy to see friends from Skymark resume services between Japan and the CNMI.
King-Hinds said they know that there are challenges that come with building the Japan market and establishing new regularly scheduled flights from any route to the CNMI post-Super Typhoon Yutu.
“Expanded air services to and from the CNMI, especially from Japan, is most welcome and we will do our best to provide them with any assistance to ensure their continued growth and success,” she said.
Skymark is still working on having regular daily flights to Saipan.
Marianas Visitors Authority managing director Priscilla M. Iakopo earlier stated that they are “extremely excited” to see more direct air service from Japan to the CNMI being announced by Skymark for the summer season.
Iakopo said the revival of the Japan market remains a marketing and promotions priority for the MVA, as the market is critical to the growth of the CNMI’s tourism economy.
Last March 22, Skymark made a historic touchdown on Saipan with a chartered B737-800 plane carrying 173 passengers, making it the first Japanese carrier to fly directly to Saipan since Japan Airlines withdrew from the CNMI in 2005.
Skymark officials then stated that their goal is to provide regular daily flights to Saipan during the summer of 2019.
