To celebrate the launch of regular, direct flight service by Skymark Airlines Inc. from Tokyo to the Marianas beginning Nov. 29, the Marianas Visitors Authority has launched a contest inviting residents of the Marianas to create Skymark plane sculptures.

First place will be awarded $500, second place will receive $300, and third place will receive $200. Winners will also receive MVA giveaways.

Sculptures must be made from recycled material and be no larger than 4’x 4’. Registration forms and full contest details are available at the MVA office on Beach Road in San Jose or by emailing info@mymarianas.com or calling 1 (670) 664-3200/1. Sculptures and entries forms must be submitted to the MVA office by Dec. 12, 2019, at 4pm. Entries will be judged with a point system based on originality, detail, creativity, and neatness.

“To make the start of Skymark’s service to the Marianas and what we expect will be a revival of the Japan market, we invite the public to express their creativity and submit an entry of a Skymark plane sculpture,” said MVA marketing manager Thomas Kim. “It’s free to enter the contest and there are more exciting events planned for Skymark night in December, so get started on your plane sculptures and stay tuned!”

The winning sculpture will be announced on Skymark night on Dec. 21, 2019, during the Christmas in the Marianas celebration at Paseo de Marianas in Garapan. (PR)
