Under the direction of Tan Holdings president Jerry Tan, Fiesta Resort and Spa ran a summer trainee program under its HR office for several young students who were awarded their certificates of completion at a special lunch last Thursday.

The six trainees were Djaymarch Ong, Norial Laserna, Ronna Arvel A. Awit, his older brother Riggz Ranier A. Awit, Patricia Santiago, and John Taisacan.
The trainees were placed in different departments, each working five hours during a day. Ong trained under food and beverage, Laserna and Ronn Awit in housekeeping, Riggz Awit in the front office department, Santiago in hotel reservations, and Taisacan in human resources.
Lucy Guo, guest relation manager and one of the supervisors for the trainees, described Santiago as a “curious” trainee who was keen on “learning a lot” under the program.
Riggz Awit cited his “tired legs” as a bellhop as one of the surprising challenges he surmounted during his training.
Ong described his training experience of about two months as a “good learning experience.”
According to Fiesta’s HR office, the hotel takes seriously its social and corporate responsibility to train local workers.
The six students were their initial batch of trainees. They are hoping to do the same with other youth next summer, but aim to start two months earlier for a wider coverage in scouting out schools for trainees as their goal is to train qualified, skilled, and future full-time workers in the hotel industry.
Tan pioneered this summer student trainee program for Tan Holdings as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.
