SIS touts MathCourt qualifiers

The first qualifying round for the CNMI MathCourt competition took place last Oct. 29, 2016, at the Admiral Herbert G. Hopwood Middle School. This round started at 9am and lasted until almost 2pm. Students from 6th grade to 12th grade participated. A total of 14 out of 32 students from Saipan International School who participated qualified for the regionals, which will be held on Jan. 28. Those who qualified from SIS were (from middle school) Christina Kim, Cevina Hwang, Julianne Hall, Hyeonjae Park, Seunghyun Kim, James Lee (high school) Cerinn Hwang, Ha Young Seo, Hyeonjoon Park, Jaehoon Jang, Jiwoo Kim, Junhee Lee, Michael Lee, and Myungjae Cho.
For individual scores in 7th grade, Christina Kim got first place and Cevina Hwang got fourth place. In high school, for 10th grade, Hyeonjoon Park got second place, while Michael Lee got third place. In 11th grade, Hyunjun Chung got fourth place, and Surui Huang got fifth place. Lastly, for 12th grade, Jaehoon Jang achieved first place, Jiwoo Kim got second place, and Cerinn Hwang got fourth place. For the team round, in the high school division, Jiwoo Kim, Myungjae Cho, and Jaehoon Jang came in first place.
The next qualifying round will be held on Dec. 10 at Tanapag Middle School for the middle school division and at Grace Christian Academy for the high school division. Congratulations to all the qualifiers and we wish future participations good luck in the next round! (Julianne Hall)
