The 2022 SIS Student Council Tennis Tournament will be held from Jan. 15 to 17 at the American Memorial Park tennis courts.
A total of 14 division will be up for grabs in the annual tournament, including men’s and women’s singles open, boys singles 16U, 14U, 12U, girls singles 16U, 14U, and 12U, U12 mixed doubles, U18 mixed doubles, mixed doubles 5.0, 4.0, 3.0, and Unisex 10U mini tennis.
Serin Chung, who along with Jimin Woon are the coordinators of the tournament, said the 2022 SIS Student Council Tennis Tournament is being held to fundraise for Saipan International School’s Student Council.
She added that they’ve been fortunate that they’ve been able to hold the tournament last year as there was no local transmission of COVID-19 at that time.
“The tournament has not been absent since the last time the tournament happened as COVID-19 was not spreading on the island. For the upcoming SIS tournament, we will be careful and do our best to keep everyone safe,” she said.
To this end, Chung and Woo has made it mandatory that all participants and spectators to strictly practice social distancing and wear masks at all times (except when playing, of course).
Chung is also crossing her fingers that they will have a respectable turnout again this year.
“The last time we had the SIS tournament, we had over 70 players, but this year we are not so sure how many people to expect because of COVID-19.”
Deadline to submit entries is at 6pm this Friday, Jan. 7. Entry fee is $20 for singles, $15 per person for doubles, and $10 for mini tennis.
