Saipan International School girls junior varsity volleyball team went one for two last Tuesday in the continuation of the Public School System Girls High School Volleyball League 2022-2023 at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

The Geckos’ first assignment was against Agape Christian School which they lost in three tough sets, 12-21, 21-18, 5-15.

They bounced back right after and shook off the nerves and fatigue when they played Mount Carmel School. It was a close two sets as they managed to put out the Lady Knights by just 3 points in both sets, winning 21-18, 21-18.

The other junior varsity games for the night was between Saipan Southern High School and MHS JV, with MHS JV winning in two sets, 21-14, 21-10.

Right after, they battled their sister junior varsity team, MHS 9, but were defeated in two tight sets, 22-20, 21-18.

After their games, SIS assistant coach Mili Saiki told Saipan Tribune that they’ve “seen a lot of improvement especially in the skills of bumping, so we are very happy.”

Head coach Stacey Eno chimed in and said “we’re just trying to get hits in every play, pass that hit, and so far, it’s getting better and better and I’m looking forward to seeing [SIS] prosper for the rest of the season.”

With their games, the Geckos JV team is at 3-4.

GCA JV and MHS 9 are both on top with 5-1, MHS JV is at 5-2, ACS JV is at 4-2, SSHS JV is at 3-3, KHS JV is still at 2-4, and MCS JV is at 2-5.

The Public School System Girls High School Volleyball League 2022-2023 is being held with help from the Northern Mariana Islands Volleyball Association.
