Sirok out as CUC general counsel
James S. Sirok is no longer the general counsel for the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. as his employment contact expired last Sunday.
Sirok informed U.S. District Court for the NMI designated Judge David O. Carter of his withdrawal from the U.S. government’s lawsuit against CUC and the CNMI government based on the fact that he is no longer authorized to represent CUC as its attorney in any legal matters.
In his declaration filed in District Court last Friday, Sirok said based on the expiration of the terms of the employment contract and the personnel action with CUC, he is no longer authorized to be employed by CUC as its general counsel.
He said he is no longer authorized by CUC to perform legal services on behalf of the utilities agency.
Sirok did not disclose the reason why he is out as counsel for CUC.
Sirok said the CNMI Attorney General also serves as legal counsel for CUC and is able to represent CUC in the U.S. government’s lawsuit absent any conflict from doing so.
Sirok said as of this date, he is not aware of any conflict between the CNMI and CUC in this matter which would prevent the CNMI AG from also representing CUC during the status conference set to commence yesterday in the event CUC does not appear with other counsel.
Sirok has been serving as general counsel for CUC for over six years.
