Kelvin Fitial and Angelo Fernando powered the Silencer past the Black Mamba, 92-86, during their game in the 2nd Ali’i Blue Haus Invitational Basketball League last Sunday at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.

Fernando scored 33 points, while Fitial added 31 to offset the 42-point explosion of Alex Lauron and hand Black Mamba its first loss in four games. While Silencer snapped Black Mamba’s winning run, the former managed to extend its streak to four after losing its debut in the 12-team league.

The lefty Fernando was off to the races, making the Silencer’s first 7 points and finishing the opening frame with 11, while Fitial chipped in 7 to lift their team to a 23-15 advantage.

Fitial and Fernando consistently hit their targets in the ensuing plays, but could not help the Silencer pull away, as Lauron kept Black Mamba in the thick of the fight. Fernando and Fitial teamed up for all, but one of the Silencer’s baskets in the third period that ended with Black Mamba down by only 4, 59-63.

In the fourth quarter, the Silencer’s 1-2 punch was still unstoppable, while Lauron carried most of the load for Black Mamba, causing the latter to miss its fourth win.

Meanwhile, in the third game last Sunday, White Haus coasted past the Green Archers, 96-80.

After falling behind in the first quarter, 21-27, White Haus buckled down to work in the second and then pulled away in the third period en route to the 16-point winning margin. White Haus now has a 4-2 record for fourth place in the team standings behind the unbeaten Tropang Ridhors (5-0), Silencer (4-1), and Black Mamba (3-1). The Green Archers are at the cellar after going winless in five games.

Jun Tabora and Darwin Barbo had another good offensive game for White Haus, scoring 27 and 24 points, respectively. They also drew help from Arjay Nonato and Nate Mateo, who combined for 26 markers. Frank Ferrer was the lone bright spot for the Green Archers after logging 25 points.
