Sick Rota man evacuated to Guam
APRA HARBOR, Guam-A Coast Guard aircrew piloting an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Barbers Point in Oahu, Hawaii medically evacuated an ill man from Rota, Wednesday.
Coast Guardsman from Sector Guam command center received the notification from the Rota Health Center Wednesday afternoon.
The patient, a 65-year-old man, was reportedly experiencing symptoms of acute kidney failure. Once the Dolphin was in the air with a Navy medic, the patient was transferred to the Rota International Airport to await the medevac. The patient was flown to Naval Hospital Guam for treatment. The current status of the patient is unknown at this time.
The Dolphin helicopter has been conducting search and rescue exercises between Coast Guard and local agencies in Guam and assisting with several Coast Guard missions in the area since its arrival. This visit marks the first time in nearly a decade that a Coast Guard Dolphin helicopter has been seen in Guam and CNMI.
