Brothers Jinnosuke and Lennosuke Suzuki of Saipan Swim Club and siblings Ashley and Aasish Dangol of Tsunami Saipan led the finishers in yesterday’s 37th Annual Saipan Ocean Swim

Jinnosuke completed the 1-kilometer race around the partially submerged World War II tanks in the waters near Naked Fish in 14:27 to place ahead of 12 others who joined the third longest course in the SSC-organized event and win the boys 9 to 10 age group. He got out of the water just a few seconds ahead of Tsunami Saipan’s Isaiah Aleksenko, who timed in at 14:36. Another Tsunami Saipan swimmer, Anthony Camacho-Deleon Guerrero, rounded out the Top 3 after submitting 15:39.

Jinnosuke’s SSC teammate Taiyo Akimaru came in at fourth in the division and overall with his 15:53 and was followed by Tsunami Saipan’s Hans Xu (16:31), SSC’s Mark Jainier Chavez (21:57), and Tsunami Saipan’s Arman Rechucher (22:01).

In the girls 9 to 10 age group, Ashley had the fastest time at 15:54, which was good for No. 5 overall. She defeated teammates Nanaka Watanabe (16:10) and Kana Suzuki (21:52) and SSC’s Jinie Thompson (18:40) and Eunice Pagaduan (24:02).

In the longer 1.3K course, Lennosuke duplicated the feat of his younger brother Jinnosuke, as the former also topped the boys 11 to 12 age group. The older Suzuki completed the race under the 20-minute mark with his 18:09. Palau’s Jericho Maido and Tsunami Saipan’s Nelson Batallones also timed in less than 20 minutes after recording 18:28 and 19:40, respectively, to round out the Top 3.

Other finishers in the group were Tsunami Saipan’s Juhn Tenorio (20:18) and SSC’s Rintaro Miyawaki (22:53), Akira Kadokura (25:27) and Dominic Zedde (27:18).

In the girls 11 to 12, Tsunami Saipan had a 1-2 finish with Aika Watanabe coming in at first with her 19:57 and Sophia Gauran ranked at second after tallying 21:25. Gauran nearly lost the runner-up award, as she stopped along the shore and looked back at eventual third placer Coume Kaga of SSC instead of sprinting to the finish line. Kaga was just a second behind Gauran. Palau’s Lolmei Uong and SSC’s Ayaka Sato were the other finishers, registering similar times of 30:03.

In the shortest race of the day, the 600m swim, Aasish bested six other entries in the boys U8 division. The younger Dangol timed in at 12:56 to prevail against SSC’s Dino Sato (13:21), Kouki Watanabe (15:23), Kengo Sato (17:02), Cojiro Kaga (17:28), and Moshe Sikkel (20:44).

In the girls U8, Andrei Keith Lynn Chavez was the top finisher after clocking in at 13:40 and defeating Tsunami Saipan’s Maria Batallones (14:18) and fellow SSC member Savita Sikkel (15:12).

Meanwhile, results in the longest race—the 2.5-kilometer course—were unavailable at press time and winners will be reported in Saipan Tribune’s Tuesday edition.
