Soroptimist International-Northern Mariana Islands presents an afternoon with Jill Derickson, founding member of The Compassionate Friends of Saipan, on Thursday, Nov. 20, from 11:30am to 1:30pm, at the Pacific Islands Club’s Annex Room. The cost is $20 and includes a lunch buffet.

The mission of The Compassionate Friends: When a child dies, at any age, the family suffers intense pain and may feel hopeless and isolated. The Compassionate Friends provides highly personal comfort, hope, and support to every family experiencing the death of a son or a daughter, a brother or a sister, or a grandchild, and helps others better assist the grieving family.

The Compassionate Friends had a serendipitous beginning 40 years ago when a chaplain brought together two grieving families. He found that their support for each other was better than what he could offer as a chaplain, thereby creating The Compassionate Friends.

Each chapter, along with the supporting National Office, is committed to helping every bereaved parent, sibling, or grandparent who may walk through its doors offering friendship, understanding and hope to bereaved parents, siblings, grandparents, and other family members during the natural grieving process after a child has died.

It not only takes a village to raise a child, but that village needs to support and empathize with the grieving family when a child is lost. Find out more about The Compassionate Friends and learn what they have to offer, and how we, the village surrounding them, can help.

Pre-purchase your tickets today from Soroptimist to reserve your seat and lunch. Contact Donna Krum at 783-0755 or donnakrum@gmail.com; or Merle Hudkins at 989-7975 or mhudkins@pticom.com.
