Defending champion Matansa Football Club recorded the most lopsided win among the three squads after whipping Tan Holdings, 14-0, in the first game at Pitch 2.
CNMI U14 Girls National Team member Lyka Sally powered Matansa to the shutout win after scoring six goals. Pinyarat Shankweiller backed her up, adding three goals, while Lyka’s younger sister, Leisha, also had a hat-trick, and Bernadette Horey contributed two to complete Matansa’s rout of Tan Holdings.
Matansa hit one goal after another in the first half to take the game away early as it led by twin digits, 10-0, at the break. The first four goals came in a span of five minutes with Shankweiler breaking the ice early with her goal in the fourth minute. Lyka nailed the next one in the sixth minute and got her second three minutes later, while Shankweiler also notched her second in the seventh minute. Lyka went on to finish off the hapless Tan Holdings FC with her three more goals in the opening half.
MP United 4, Paire 0
MP United FC duplicated Matansa’s shutout win after dominating Paire over at Pitch 1.
Gillian Villagomez, who also suited up for the CNMI U14 Girls National Team that played in AFC U14 Girls Regional Championships (East) 2015 in Beijing, China, started the fall season with a hat-trick to lift MP United to the victory.
Maaya Sato tallied the other goal for MP United, making it to the board first in the 12 minute. MP United’s final three goals from Villagomez were also recorded in the first half.
Shirley’s 2, Kanoa FC 0
Spring season defending champion Shirley’s FC began its bid for a second straight division title this year with a 2-0 triumph over Kanoa FC.
Jerlyn Castillo and De Jana Muna knocked in the goals for Shirley’s FC, which ruled the spring season after posting an 8-2-0 win-draw-loss record in the double-elimination tournament. Both shots dropped in the second half with Castillo scoring in the 82nd and Muna finding the back of the five minutes later.
Meanwhile, Shirley’s will go for win No. 2 when it takes on Matansa in the first game on Pitch 1 at 2:30pm. Over on Pitch 2 at the same time, MP United battles Tan Holdings, while in the last match at 4pm, Kanoa is paired against Paire.
