The Society for Human Resource Management CNMI Chapter will be hosting its 2014 Annual Conference on the topic of “Current Immigration Issues for the CNMI,” a topic of continuing concern for all HR professionals, managers, and employers. SHRM’s guest speakers, noted immigration attorneys from both the CNMI and Guam will address a variety of immigration issues ranging from the recent CW-1 visa program extension, the uncertainty of the E2C program, the effect of the Presidents Executive Order, and other current issues. Our Speakers will provide an opportunity for questions from the audience.

Attorneys Maya Kara and Bruce Mailman, partners in the noted local CNMI law firm, Mailman & Kara, LLC, the CNMI’s foremost specialists in U.S. immigration law, will first address the CW-1 visa program and its recent extension, clarifying what the extension does and what it does not do. They will also discuss problems employers encounter and how to avoid RFEs and denials. They will also discuss President Obama’s recent Executive Action, the deferred action programs for children and parents, who qualifies and how this action applies in the CNMI.

Attorney Nelson J. Xu, a partner in Bauman, Kondas & Xu, one of Guam’s leading law firms in U.S. immigration and business law, will discuss how the current uncertainty of the E2C program for CNMI investors and the termination of H visa cap exemption serve as a stern warning that the Congress is determined to completely integrate CNMI into the U.S. immigration system.  He will explore the U.S. immigration options for employees and families in the Commonwealth and examine the different categories of employment and family-based immigration as well as the various kinds of popular U.S. working visas available to the Commonwealth.”

This meeting will be held this Thursday, Dec. 18, at Charley’s Cabaret, PIC, from 8am to 1:30pm.
The presentation includes lunch at a cost of $30 for SHRM members and $40 for non-members.  Seats are limited and can be reserved by contacting Micah Parico-Acuavera by phone at 234-1795 or by e-mail at  HYPERLINK “mailto:corpoffice@triplejsaipan.com” corpoffice@triplejsaipan.com, or Nora Sablan by phone at 235-0994/8 or by e-mail at  HYPERLINK “mailto:Nora.Sablan@fhphealth.com” Nora.Sablan@fhphealth.com.
