Shirley’s, Tan Holdings ease past foes
Shirley’s Football Club and Tan Holdings FC bagged easy wins in the 2015 Dove Women’s Football League last Saturday at the Oleai Sports Complex Field.
League-leading Shirley’s FC had a free ride to victory after a no-show from MP United in the first game of the weekend. With the win, Shirley’s kept its unbeaten record in nine games and strengthened its hold to the top spot in the seven-team field.

The pacesetter was automatically awarded with three goals due to the victory via forfeiture, bringing its total so far to a league-best 35 goals. MP United was stuck at 18, while allowing 24 goals and dropping to a 5-1-4 win-draw-loss record for third place in the team standings behind Tan Holdings.
Tan Holdings retained the No. 2 spot following a 3-0 win against Independents, which waved the white flag early in the second half due to fatigue.
Young guns Jennifer Perena, Renita Fleming, and Chloe Salvosa scored one goal apiece for Tan Holdings, which fielded a lot of fresh legs in the match against the veteran players of Independents FC.
Tan Holdings improved its record to 6-3-1 and increased its goals total to 29, the second best in the league. Independents FC fell to a 2-0-7 mark and has scored only eight goals so far, while giving up 25.
In other results last Saturday, Matansa FC and Kanoa FC settled for a 2-2 draw.
Bernadette Horey and Marielle Gariguez hit one goal apiece for Matansa and Kanoa, respectively, while the opposing teams were awarded with an own goal each. Horey put Matansa in the board with her shot in the first half, while Kanoa equalized early in the second half with an own goal. Matansa regained the upper hand as it was the team’s turn to get a break off Kanoa’s miscue. However, Kanoa tied the match anew, thanks to Gariguez’s goal.
With the draw, Kanoa is still at the No. 4 spot in the team standings with its 4-3-2 record and 24 goals. Matansa is two notches down at sixth place with its 1-0-7 mark and 11 goals. Idle Paire is at the bottom of the team standings, holding a 0-0-7 record and the least goals (4).
