Shirley’s FC continued its winning ways in the 2012 NMIFA Women’s Spring League.
The undefeated club crushed Matansa FC, 15-0, in last Saturday’s first game at the Hopwood Junior High School Field to notch its third win in as many matches.
Marilou Gariguez led Shirley’s demolition of Matansa, scoring five goals, while Lalaine Pagarao also did a lot of damage on offense, chipping in four goals. Marielle Gariguez contributed three goals, while Jeraldine Castillo and Charlene Lizardo made one each to complete the lopsided win.
Matansa was doomed early in the game when Saifon Kabkhuntod committed a booboo just two minutes into the first half, knocking in the ball toward the goal, giving Shirley’s FC a 1-0 lead.
Then six minutes later, Marilou Gariguez hit her first goals, while Castillo also found the back of the net in the 10th minute for Shirley’s 3-0 lead. Back-to-back goals from Pagarao put Shirley’s on top by five, 5-0, with still 12 minutes left in the first half, which ended with Lizardo and Marielle Gariguez also breaking into the scoreboard for their big 7-0 advantage.
In the second half, Marilou Gariguez and company were still unstoppable, as they toyed around the defense of Matansa and drilled eight more goals. Marilou Gariguez drained four straight goals (70th, 73rd, 78th, and 81st), while Marielle Gariguez (53rd and 65th) and Pagarao (57th and 68th) alternately scored Shirley’s first four goals in the second half.
With the blowout loss, Matansa is still winless in four games.
In the other match last weekend, Paire edged Independents, 1-0.
Nicole LeBlanc scored the winning goal in the second half, breaking Paire’s silence in the 34th minute of the final 45 minutes of play.
Meanwhile, last Friday’s match between MP United and Tan Holdings resulted in a forfeit in favor of the former after the latter failed to field enough players in the game.
