Shirley’s Coffee Shop kept its unblemished record in the 2014 JP World Corp. Customer Appreciation Basketball League, following a 79-64 win against McDonald’s last Friday night at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.

Shirley’s bagged its fifth win in as many games, while McDonald’s absorbed its second straight setback after a 3-0 start.

Lerio Pagarao, Erick Dela Rosa, and Ernest Duenas played beautiful music together to lift Shirley’s to another easy win. Pagarao top-scored for the team with his 16 points, while Dela Rosa and Duenas added 14 and 13, respectively.

Sean Rabasto did not break into double figures, but his 9 points in the first quarter, coupled with the 7 markers of Dela Rosa were enough to give Shirley’s promising lead, 23-12.

McDonald’s managed to bring the deficit down to as low as seven points in the second quarter with big man McLain Achas and Gil Gapor hitting point-blanked shots. However, McDonald’s failed to sustain its momentum in the second period, while Shirley’s began getting contributions from its bench to keep its safe distance at the break, 41-25.

Six different players made it to the board for Shirley’s in the second quarter and its bench production complemented the consistent shooting of its Top 3 scorers in the final half to hand McDonald’s back-to-back losses.

Rommel Usi came off the bench and contributed 10 points for Shirley’s, while Elmer Esdrelon, who was scoreless in the first half, knocked in two triples in the third to help the team protect its double-digit advantage. Josephus Aguilar added 4 markers, while John Jugos and Vince Manibusan completed Shirley’s box score, chipping in 3 and 2, respectively.

Only five players scored for McDonald’s with McLain Achas leading the squad with his 21 points. Mike Achas logged 18, while Gapor registered 16. Tim Deleon Guerrero and Ken Quemado combined for 7 points, while shooter Richard Cruz had an off night as he was held scoreless in the loss.

Shirley’s 79 – Pagarao 16, Dela Rosa 14, Duenas 13, Usi 10, Rabasto 9, Esdrelon 6, Aguilar 4, Jugos 3, Manibusan 2.

McDonald’s 64 – Mc. Achas 21, Mi. Achas 18, Gapor 16, Deleon Guerrero 4, Quemado 3.

Scoring by quarters: 23-12, 41-25, 60-46, 79-64.
