Shirley’s FC pummels Matansa
Defending champion Shirley’s Football Club recorded another lopsided win after routing Matansa FC, 12-2, in their girls U15 division game in the 2017 NMIFA Fall Youth League last Saturday at the Francisco M. Sablan Middle School Field.
Shirley’s, which came from a 9-0 thrashing of TanHoldings during the league’s opening week, picked up where it left off, blowing the game wide open in the second half after scoring eight goals. Therize Millare starred in Shirley’s crashing of Matansa after firing four goals, while Katherine Magat chipped in three. Katrina Costales and Valeria Myers contributed two, while Lilian Podziewski added one. Jannah Casarino handed Matansa its lone goal in the match.

With the easy victory, Shirley’s took the early lead in the seven-team field with its 2-0-0 win-draw-loss record, while Matansa is at the bottom of the standings as it dropped its first two games this season.
Kanoa FC joined Shirley’s on top of the leaderboard following a similar lopsided victory against TanHoldings, 9-0.
Paulyn Joyce had a hat trick to lift Kanoa to its second win in as many games after the squad pulled off a 5-4 triumph over Southern United in its season debut last Sept. 9. Joyce drew first blood for Kanoa with her goal in the fifth minute and her last two came in the 14th and 59th.
Hannah Santos and Khristelle Itaas backed up Joyce after recording two goals each, while Ericka Santiago and Princess Alcantara made one apiece.
In other results in the girls U15 division, MP United got off to a strong start after beating Paire, 5-1.
Maury Zon Tybaco helped MP United win its first game of the season after drilling three goals in the first half. She posted her goals in succession in a span of nine minutes, registering her first in the third minute and the last two in the seventh and ninth. Stella McCallion also made it to the board for MP United, tallying her first goal in the 25th minute and the second in the 40th.
Kyna Margaret Sales had the lone goal for Paire, which failed to make a follow-up on its 2-1 triumph over Matansa in the opening week. Sales hit the board in the 32nd minute.
BOYS U17
MP United 4, Paire 2
MP United earned the solo lead in the division following a win over Paire last Saturday at the Hopwood Middle School Field.
Joshua Abragan, Anthony Fruit, and Sunjoon Tenorio scored for MP United, which now has a 2-0-0 mark. Abrahan had back-to-back goals, scoring in the eighth and 14th minute, while Fruit and Tenorio registered their goals in the 21st and 30th, respectively.
Paire, which fell to a 0-0-2 card as it earlier forfeited its opening game against TanHoldings, failed to break into the win column with only Robbie Schorr and Rex De Jose lighting up the board for the losing squad. Schorr found the back of the net in the 49th minute, while De Jose did the same in the 75th.
Matansa 10, Kanoa 1
Matansa bounced back from its opening loss to MP United with an easy victory against Kanoa.
Matansa, which was held to one goal in its first game of the season, was on target against Kanoa with Lolobeyong Benito anchoring the squad’s offense after logging three goals. Joshua Daniel Malig and Ronnel Ocanada added two apiece, while Alan Hinson, Jether Yobech, and Louie Calayag completed Matansa’s balance scoring after contributing one goal each.
Kanoa, which absorbed its second defeat in as many games, avoided a shutout out when Brian Lubao scored in the 69th minute.
