Shirley’s Coffee Shop tops Panlasang Pinoy competition
Shirley’s Coffee Shop took home the top prize in the Panlasang Pinoy cooking competition during the Pusong Pinoy 2012 event held last Feb. 17 at the Susupe Civic Center, Susupe on Saipan.
The restaurant won with its lineup of entrees that included Filipino favorites like beef kaldereta, pork adobo, pinakbet, tinolang manok, and ginataang tuna.
Pusong Pinoy 2012 was organized by the United Filipino Organization and saw several hundred community members attend the whole-day event.
“I want to thank UFO for giving us an opportunity to showcase our Pinoy dishes during Pusong Pinoy 2012. I would also like to congratulate our cooks and staff for preparing the winning dishes,” said Shirley’s Coffee Shop general manager Susan Macario.
Shirley’s Coffee Shop was one of six restaurants and food establishments that joined the competition. The champion won $300, while the runner-up received $200. Third place got $100.
Founded in 1983, Shirley’s Coffee Shop has been serving the best of Chamorro, Filipino, and American cuisines in generous servings on Saipan and in Guam.
Shirley’s Coffee Shop in Susupe and Garapan also offers daily lunch specials for only $8.95. The lunch package includes two entrées, two scoops of rice, a serving of appetizer and soup of the day. It is good for two and best if shared with a friend, a co-worker, or a special someone.
