Shenanigans and Sunshine Café receive Biba Award

Shenanigans and Sunshine Café were both presented with the Biba Award that honors them for providing healthy lunch options on their menu.
Shenanigans was presented with the award on Oct. 26 due to its lunch offerings called Moorish Crunch Salad, Insalata Mista, and Insalata Friulana. Sunshine Café was recognized for its Tuna Salad with White Wine Vinaigrette, Fruit and Veggie Juice, Pineapple Boost Juice, and Green and Lean Juice.
The Biba healthy restaurant program identifies restaurants that are culinary leaders for providing healthy eating options in the Northern Mariana Islands.
Presenting the awards to the two restaurants were Non-Communicable Disease Bureau administrator Becky Robles, REACH grant local project assistant Jessica Lorfing, and Stacy De Jesus, coordinator for the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion.
Liezzle Viola, Sunshine Café manager, said, “It feels great having this kind of program launch and be[ing] a part of it. It’s like giving back to the community by offering them healthy food every time they come by here.”
Richard Allan Santos, head chef of Sunshine Café, said, “There are people out there who exercise and always look for ways to stay healthy. However, sometimes they fall off the wagon and indulge in sweets so our food, in a way, is an alternative to that since it tastes delicious but is made from the freshest juices varying from carrots to raspberries.”
“Shenanigans always strives to serve fresh food and gives our customers healthy menu options,” said Belen Busby, owner of Shenanigans restaurant. “Having the Biba Award just reiterates it by acknowledging our efforts.”
Busby said she and her staff feel that their customers deserve healthier meals whenever they choose to.
Other organizations that have, or will be receiving, a Biba Award includes Shirley’s Coffee Shop and Restaurant, Caravan, and Everest.
