Shell remains open, Mobil opening today still iffy
IP&E Shell stations on Saipan will continue to be open today for the public, while reserving one station for emergency vehicles only. Mobil Oil Mariana Islands Inc., however, is still unclear on what time their service stations will be opening today.
According to an IP&E statement issued last Saturday, Shell stations that are open to the general public include Shell Puerto Rico, Shell Gualo Rai, Shell Highway Express, Shell Susupe, and Shell Airport.
However, the Shell Airport station only has gasoline. The four others have both gasoline and diesel fuel. All five stations will be open to the general public from 8am to 7pm.
The Shell Koblerville station is only open for government official emergency vehicles.
Shell Station operators will still be limiting fuel sales to $50 per fuel transaction.
Mobil, however, didn’t open its service stations yesterday. According to Mobil Oil, there were logistics issues at the terminal that prevented them from opening their stations.
However, a late afternoon advisory stated that four Mobil stations resumed services last night from 7pm until midnight following replenishment of supplies from the terminal. The four stations are Middle Road, Chalan Kiya, Susupe, and San Vicente.
“We would like to apologize for any prior inconvenience caused, and would like toexpress our thanks for your patience and understanding. We are glad that we can now resume operations at the stations,” a Mobil statement said. “We request that for your own safety, motorists drive only if necessary to reduce congestion on the roads. We would like to assure everyone that Mobil has sufficient fuel in Saipan to meet the needs of the community.”
As to whether or not Mobil will open today is still unclear, but Mobil’s point of contact Catherine Leon Guerrero said that they will be having a meeting today and will provide updates as to what will happen to Mobil stations later in the day.
“We’ll provide update tomorrow [Aug. 10] but expect sites to open once they get their deliveries,” Leon Guerrero said.
