SHEFA reminds students of supporting documents deadline
Applicants for the Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance have until Feb. 28, 2015, to submit supporting documents, according to SHEFA administrator Merissa S. Rasa.
Rasa said the first batch of check requests from Spring semester students will be forwarded to Department of Finance on Jan. 9, 2015.
Rasa said that SHEFA scholars who recently graduated need to submit a copy of their degree, an official transcript, SHEFA graduate form, and Employment Verification Form. The graduate form and verification form can be downloaded at www.saipanshefa.net.
SHEFA recipients have three months after graduating or non-enrollment to submit the documents for compliance purposes. Legal action face those who fail to comply with this.
“As part of the agreement with new graduates, they must submit their official transcript, completed and signed SHEFA graduate form which can be found on the website,” Rasa said.
“It is a real challenge to track students who do not return to the CNMI and do not provide us their current status. It is important that recipients not forget the agreement that was made when they signed the agreement and accepted their award,” Rasa said.
Rasa also said that she hopes previous recipients in default contact their office so that they can work with them on a payment plan, on their compliance, even on requesting for a deferment or forbearance if they have trouble finding employment.
