The restaurant The Shack in Oleai has signed on as an emerald sponsor of the Green Gala, the signature fundraising event of the Micronesia Islands Nature Alliance.

According to The Shack co-owner Glen Hunter, The Shack is committed to keep supporting the conservation work of MINA: “We are so grateful for all that MINA does to protect our fragile environment, and we are proud to once again be able to support one of their main fundraising events.”

“As a small local business, we do our very best to actively protect our natural resources by utilizing reusable dishware, offering eco-friendly takeout containers, focusing on locally-sourced produce, composting organic waste, supporting cleanup efforts, and donating to groups like MINA,” he added.

Roberta Guerrero, executive director of MINA, echoed the commitment of The Shack and thanked them for all that they do for the environment.

“Their emerald sponsorship commitment also came to us in the form of a really fun and creative re-purposed piece of cardboard, and their efforts to support MINA’s work in building on the culture of recycling in the CNMI means a lot. We at MINA are so appreciative of all that [Hunter] and his team do to keep the Marianas clean and litter-free,” Guerrero said.

The Green Gala will be held on Friday, Sept. 15, at the Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan. In addition to lively entertainment, dinner and a variety of beverages, the Green Gala will feature highlights from MINA’s projects, a silent auction, and many other activities that promise a memorable evening to celebrate over 12 years of working with island communities for conservation.
