SGA February Ace on Sunday
The Saipan Golfers Association will be having its February Ace of the Month tournament this Sunday, March 13, on the west course of Laolao Bay Golf & Resort. Show time and registration is at 9am, while tee time starts at 10am.
Gregorio Sablan Jr. earned the first monthly ace of SGA by shooting a 73 last Jan. 17, which was also the final day of their Ace of Aces tournament. He beat Jess Castro (74) by one shot.
Sablan had a gross score of 91 after rounds of 51 and 40, and with an 18 handicap he ended up with a 73 net. He was also the winner of SGA’s yearend tournament to complete his back-to-back title bid.
Sablan, who qualified in the Ace of Aces for winning the October monthly crown, joined two other SGA two-time champions Jung Eun Teack (2001, 2013) and Jose S. Demapan (2005, 2008). He is the only first back-to-back title holder.
Attorney General Edward Manibusan finished with the third best net score with a 76, while Commonwealth Cancer Association program manager Juan L. Babauta, Jung and Nick Sablan ended up tied from fourth to sixth places with 77s, and John “Nanni” Cruz was at seventh with a 78. (JVP)
