SGA April Ace Sunday at Kingfisher
The Saipan Golfers Association’s April Ace of the Month Tournament will be held this Sunday at the Kingfisher Golf Links with show and tee times at 9am and 10am, respectively.
The winner of the club’s fourth competition for the year will earn a slot to the SGA Ace of Aces and join early qualifiers Das Krishnan, Jung Eun Teack, and Greg Sablan Jr.
Krishnan ruled the March Ace of the Month contest after scoring a net 72. The 14-handicapper had 43s on both nines for a gross 86 and won the tiebreak against John Lizama. CNMI attorney general Ed Manibusan rounded out the Top 3 after firing a net 73, built around a 42 on the front and 36 on the back. Manibusan has a 5 handicap and also topped the closest to the pin contest on the par-3 hole No. 4 of the east course of Laolao Bay Golf & Resort.
Other closest to the winners in the March tournament were James Nelson on No. 6, John Cruz on No. 11, and Frank Castro on No. 15, while John Babauta and Sablan Jr. prevailed in the longest drive competition on holes No. 3 and 10, respectively.
Sablan Jr. ruled both the January and February Ace, but since he already secured the monthly plum in the group’s first tournament of the year, Teack took the February honors. Sablan Jr. tallied a net 73 in the January competition held on the west course of the Kagman facility last Jan. 17 to beat Castro and Manibusan, who carded a net 74 and 75, respectively.
Manibusan then won the closest to the pin contest on No. 3, while Babauta, Steve Balakrishna, and James Nelson had the same feats on No. 7, 13, and 17. The Commonwealth’s AG also got the longest drive victory on No. 2, while Castro topped the contest on No. 12.
Meanwhile, in the February Ace held on the west course, too last March 14, Sablan Jr. was ranked first with his net 71, one stroke ahead of Teack, while Castro finished third with his net 76
The Top 3 finishers also earned closest to the pin wins.
