Hannah Maria, Carmelita, Victoria, Wahine V, Boni. Are these the names of famous women?

No, they are the names of boats that competed in the 29th annual Saipan International Fishing Tournament sponsored by the Saipan Fishermen’s Association.

Add Reina Kai, Cindy Lou, Gloria, Bella, and Fiona are also on the list. Include Charlie Cat, Blu By U, My Lady Gora, and Luka Ben which were SFA tournament champions, and Emmanuel, a worthy competitor from Guam, and the record-holder in the marlin category with its whopping 942-pounder reeled in July 2012. About 10 boats are expected to arrive from Guam for the 2014 Saipan International Fishing Tournament scheduled for July 19 and 20.

The Botin Saba was the 2013 winner of the mahi category, while the Here Fishee Fishee, captained by Takade Nakazato, all alone on a 14-footer, reeled in a 45-lb yellow fin tuna, winning first place in that category.

Then there are Ampa Boys, 2 Sisters, Bunita, Mahal, Close Enough, a lot of love went into the naming of these boats. How about Saint James, Saint Patrick, Santa Primitiva? A little divine intervention never hurt anyone. Consider Jesse Boy, Cindy Lou, and Justin, the eldest child or favorite grandchildren?

Throw in Joker, Soul Mates, Pastime III, Da Atta Girl, Lil Tighten, Sweet Candy, Zeppelin, Showtime, Olympic Will, and Tweety Bird into the picture and one can’t help but admire the competitive spirit of these boat captains. Then add international flavor in the tournament with Sea Ray, The Marianas, Team Kajiin, and Mizuwari.

Which boat and captain will be the SFA champion of the 30th Annual Saipan International Fishing Tournament? Find out for yourself. Game on, Peskadot! (SFA)
