The Northern Marianas Humanities Council would like to invite all the middle schools and high schools to participate and for all of the CNMI to attend.

First place winners in each division will have their names and school names inscribed on perpetual trophies that will be housed at the winning schools until next year’s competition.

The late Valentine Sengebau was a Palauan turned Saipan resident who wrote poems about the personal, political and cultural life in Micronesia. In 2004, to ensure that his work will be enjoyed by future generations, the Northern Marianas Humanities Council published an anthology of his poetry, Microchild. The annual Valentine Sengebau Poetry Competition was established to support the work of young Micronesian poets and to honor the legacy of Micronesia’s foremost poet.
