Sendin rules Saipan Duathlon

Charlie Sendin led the finishers list in last Saturday’s 4th Saipan Duathlon, beating 17 others in the men’s individual race.
Organizers did not record the official times for the event, but Sendin completed the 5-kilometer run, 20K bike, and 2.5K run course, which started and ended at Paupau Beach with participants heading out to the Marpi area, ahead of Justin Jones and Teng Zhang. Other finishers were Shuji Kuroda, Ariel Moises, Haozhe Shan, Rio Jacob, Flore Derexes, Nap Dizon, Ren Gaviola, Enrique Evangelista, Phil Guiang, Ponciano Corotan, Edgar Abalos, Andrew Estepa, Jess Gariguez, and Leo Wania.
In the women’s division, Nina Gonzaga was the top finisher, defeating Sheila Isla and Vernice Rhonda, while Alex and Ernie Henzon of Ernie & Alex and Alice Yang and Willie Barbo and Alice in Wonder Willyland prevailed in the relay races.
Ernie & Alex won in the men’s relay against Eagle, Boyz2Men, Agape 1, Agape 80K, Agape NB, ACS103A, Fat and Furious and Tandem.
In the mixed relay, Alice in Wonder Willyland placed ahead of Team Fried Rice, Mr. & Mrs. Tolentino, Team 2020, Team Last Minute, Wifey & I, Nora & James, and the Water Company.
Triathlon Association on Saipan organized last weekend’s event, which served as the kickoff for the Road to Tagaman Triathlon Race Series.
The second leg will be held on Jan. 26 and dubbed as Aquathlon and 10K Pathway Run, while the last will take place on Feb. 29 and will be called Sprint Triathlon. Next year’s Tagaman Triathlon is scheduled for March 21.
