The Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigations held a hearing on the credentials of Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and Lt. Gov. Victor B. Hocog’s nominations to the Northern Marianas College Board of Regents.

The two nominees, Irene Torres and Michael Evangelista, bring crucial expertise to the college.

Torres, with experience as a financial aid specialist at NMC and a former accountant and compliance officer of the Department of Public Lands and the Commonwealth Ports Authority, will offer much needed accounting and financial compliance for the college if confirmed by the Senate.

As an attorney, Michael Evangelista brings a wealth of legal background experience and guidance.

Both were said to be analytical, detail oriented, and passionate toward helping the Northern Marianas College as alumni and in their respective fields.

Torres stated that NMC has come along way and is proud to be a product and a part of its progress.

Evangelista expressed that serving on the Board of Regents fulfills a sense of duty to the college in which he hopes to ensure still remains accessible and affordable. He stated that if confirmed, he is committed to formulating and streamlining policy, accreditation, and helping post-secondary education for students of Tinian and Rota become more accessible.
