The Senate confirmed two representatives to the CNMI Professional Licensing Board representing Saipan unanimously.

During a session on Friday, the Senate confirmed Elizabeth Balajadia and Roy Reyes to serve a full term of six years for the PLB, or the body that reviews professional licensing applications in the NMI.

Balajadia, who is a licensed civil engineer, said she wishes to “protect the community” by making sure engineers are licensed.

“I’d also like to [urge] our young engineers to [obtain licensure] in the CNMI,” said Balajadia.

The PLB works together with the Health Care Professions Licensing Board on licensing medical professionals.

Reyes, like Balajadia, remains thankful to Gov. Ralph DLG Torres for his appointment. He noted that he was looking forward to an additional six years for his tenure on the board.

“We have been getting a lot of applicants from off-island, so we would continue our diligent effort to make sure that we screen those applicants,” said Reyes.

“One of our [responsibilities] is that when we get complaints, we review them,” he added.

The PLB’s scope includes reviewing the licensure applications of engineers, architects, surveyors, and appraisers. The PLB is a regulatory board that adheres to the national standard set in the U.S.
