Senate committee seeks CUC documents; updated DPW status
The Senate Committee on Public Utilities, Transportation, and Communications sent out letters to both heads of the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. and the Department of Public Works for documents surrounding financials and updates on the agencies for the committee’s review.
According to documents obtained by Saipan Tribune, Sen. Sixto K. Igisomar (R-Saipan) has requested CUC for financials and DPW for updated status reports on solid waste and road and highway projects, both local and federal.
Both letters were dated Oct. 20, 2017, and were addressed to CUC executive director Gary Camacho and DPW Secretary James Ada.
The committee asked CUC for a breakdown of accounts receivables for residential customers, commercial businesses, and the government, which is to be detailed per department or agency in monthly payments and balances owed.
PUTC also wishes to obtain details on customer deposits, and reports for all net-metering and prepaid metering clients for residential customers and commercial businesses.
The PUTC wants included the amount to be paid to CUC due to the use of DPW streetlights in the committee’s request for CNMI government and utility payments agreements, as well as any proposed amendments.
Similarly, the committee also asked DPW to provide information on their contract agreement with CUC regarding streetlights, along with updates on solid waste for Saipan, Tinian, and Rota; updates on the Marpi landfill; updates on the Lower Base Refuse Transfer Station, along with a distinction of common recyclables received; and updates on the trash convenience centers for Kagman, and Koblerville.
PUTC expects an updated status of major road projects under DPW for Rota, Tinian, and Saipan, including funding sources and the expected date of completion.
These include updates on the Isa Drive road project on Saipan; Windward Drive; and the hotel street or Garapan revitalization traffic project.
Unlike CUC, DPW is requested to meet with the committee to conduct a presentation on the topics.
