Second suspect in robbing taxi driver falls
Police arrested Monday night the second suspect who allegedly beat up a taxi driver and robbed him, causing him to crash his car in a jungle area near the intersection of Katbon Road in San Vicente.
Daimeionne Kaleo Greer, 18, was arrested for robbery, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.
Superior Court Associate Judge Teresa Kim-Tenorio set a $15,000 cash bail. Preliminary hearing will be on Dec. 14 at 9am.
Police detective Andrew S. Taimanao stated in his report that Greer’s arrest was prompted after the mother of the first suspect, Kid Kyle Osiik Omengkar, disclosed to a Division of Youth Services’ staff that Omengkar had nothing to do with the robbery.
The mother revealed that Omengkar was only covering for his juvenile brother, who was with Greer, also known as Damian, during the robbery.
When Police Officer Travis Hurst stopped Omengkar and Greer near the scene, the latter ran away. Hurst was injured when he fell to the ground during the chase.
According to court documents, Omengkar’s brother already confessed that he was with Greer at the time. The juvenile was also arrested.
It is not clear if the government will dismiss Omengkar’s charges following the arrest of Greer and the juvenile.
The victim, Chengzhe Piao, suffered a laceration on the right side of his face. He was robbed of $80 to $100 cash, police said.
Police detective Taimanao stated in his report that Hurst responded to an auto crash along Isa Drive in San Vicente on Nov. 30 at 10:21pm.
Piao, who met with Hurst on the side of the road, told Hurst he had picked up two customers at Nang Ocha Store in San Vicente at 10pm and they told him to drop them off at a hotel in Garapan.
As Piao was driving down from Nang Ocha Store toward the intersection of Katbon Road and Isa Drive, the two men started punching him, causing the car to crash on the other side of the roadway.
After the crash, the suspects took about $80 to $100 from the car’s sun visor and fled on foot. Piao then called the police.
While Hurst was waiting for a tow truck to pull the victim’s car from the jungle, he saw two men walking north along the sidewalk on the opposite side of the road.
Piao identified the two men as the persons who beat him up and robbed him.
Hurst secured one, who was later identified as Omengkar, but the second suspect ran off. Omengkar identified the suspect as a certain Damian.
