Search suspended for Marine missing off Tinian
Bolivar, Zimmerman send condolences
TINIAN—On the morning of Oct. 1, 2014, the Coast Guard District 14 commander, Rear Adm. Cari Thomas, suspended the search for Corporal Donovan E. Clancy, who was swept over the reef at LamLam Beach on the northwestern side of Tinian.
Exhaustive searches were conducted from Sept. 26 through 30. The five-day search was conducted by land, sea, and air assets and encompassed 1,714 square nautical miles.

Agencies involved in the search included the CNMI Department of Public Safety (Saipan and Tinian), CNMI Division of Fish and Wildlife Enforcement, CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management, U.S. Marine Air Group 12, U.S. Air Base Kadena, U.S. Navy Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25, and U.S. Coast Guard Sector Guam.
Rear Adm. Bette Bolivar, commander of Joint Region Marianas, released the below statement in response to the suspension of the search for a missing Marine temporarily assigned to Tinian:
“May God bless the family of Cpl. Donovan Clancy and the Marines assigned to Marine Wing Communication Squadron 18. My thoughts are with the Marines on Tinian during this difficult time as they are away from their homes. The training they are participating in as part of Forager Fury and the work they do every day are vital to the defense of our nation. To the families of everyone who has been affected by this tragedy, our hearts and prayers go out to you.”
Col. P.J. Zimmerman, officer-in-charge, Marine Corps Activities Guam, also extends his condolences with the following statement:
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Cpl. Clancy, his family and the unit during this time of grief.
