Search for missing Marine suspended

TINIAN—The search for Corporal Donovan E. Clancy, assigned to Marine Wing Communications Squadron 18, was officially suspended by U.S. Coast Guard Sector Guam on Oct. 1, 5am Guam time. Clancy’s next of kin were notified prior to the U.S. Coast Guard’s request to suspend the search.

“Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to all who have been affected by this event, especially the family of Cpl. Donovan E. Clancy. Know that you have our continued support during these trying times,” said Col. Hunter H. Hobson, commanding officer of Marine Aircraft Group 12 and executing officer of Forager Fury III.

The search for Clancy coordinated by USCG Sector Guam began the evening of Friday, Sept. 26. Participating units included Marine Air Group 12 Marines; the Saipan Department of Public Safety; the Tinian DPS; USCG Cutter Washington; Patrol Squadron 5; Commander, Task Force 72; and Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25 search and rescue teams.

Clancy, from Ridgway, Pa., joined the Marine Corps in Feb. 2011. Prior to reporting to MWCS-18 on Okinawa, Japan, in December 2012 as an AN/TRC-170 technician, he was assigned to Marine Corps Communications Electronics School Twenty-nine Palms, Calif.; Defense Language Institute Monterey, Calif.; Marine Combat Training, School of Infantry, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; and Recruit Training Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C.

His awards include the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Meritorious Mast, Korean Defense Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.

A memorial service for Clancy will be held on Tinian’s Unai Lamlam Beach. Final time is pending due to weather. (Public Affairs Office, Forager Fury)
