Saipan Community School 1ousted Agape Christian School in the middle school division of the 2015-2016 Coalition of Private Schools Sports Association Volleyball League yesterday at the ACS court in Gualo Rai.
SCS made short work of Agape, winning in only two sets, 25-22, 25-14, to barge into the semifinals of the 10-team field.
Carol Lee had a solid service game to hand SCS the sweep. After a close first set, Lee helped SCS pull away in the second. Actually, Agape and SCS played neck-and-neck in the early stages of the second set with the match tied at 10-all. David Cai then served for Agape and broke the deadlock. He scored two more aces to give Agape a 13-10 advantage before Lee led SCS’ fightback once she assumed position at the service area.
The 13-year-old Lee started serving after SCS got its 15th point and she went on to score six aces, including the last two points that sealed the win for her team. While Lee was on a roll, Agape was held to a point since the former began serving for SCS.
Meanwhile, SCS’ semis foe at the upper half of the draw has yet to be known at press time. It will face either Saipan International School 1 or the winner in the SIS 3 versus Whispering Palms playoff match. Whispering Palms and SIS 3 squared off yesterday at SIS with the victor also playing on the same day against the top-ranked SIS 1 for the other Final Four seat at the top half of the draw.
