SCS’ 23rd Uke Jam this Thursday
Saipan Community School’s Ukulele Ensemble—composed of seventh and eighth-graders—show off the gold award they got at the Tumon Bay Music Festival’s Solo and Ensemble Competition last month in Guam. They are joined here by father-son music educators Larry and Kui Lee. (SCS)
The Ukulele Ensemble of Saipan Community School will be performing tomorrow night, April 27, 2023, at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe as part of the 23rd edition of their annual Uke Jam. The event is set to start at 6pm and is open and free to the public.
At the same event, the school will also be awarding the 2023 SCS Ukulele Elite Award to a graduating SCS eighth-grader student, according to SCS principal Amanda Dunn. She said the award is intended to honor a student’s display of exceptional skills in ukulele playing, their leadership when helping others improve their ukulele skills, and the demonstration of their overall love for playing the instrument.
The show will be one of SCS’ Ukulele Ensemble’s first public gigs in the CNMI since winning a well-deserved gold medal at the Tumon Bay Music Festival’s Solo and Ensemble Competition last month in Guam. The ensemble is composed of seventh and eighth-graders from the school, and is headed by the acclaimed father-son music duo and educators Larry and Kui Lee.
