The Oleai Sports Complex track and field facility will be closed starting tomorrow for general repairs and will be reopened only for training and competition of various sports federations.
“This is to inform the general public and other sports federations and clubs using the Oleai sports oval complex that the facility will be closed starting this Wednesday, March 12, for general repairs. The re-opening of the facility will be announced later but only sports federations will be allowed access to the facility for training and competition purposes. Public usage will be announced at a later date.
“We apologize for the inconvenience, but the facility has deteriorated to the point where liability has become an issue,” Northern Marianas Amateur Sports Association staff Elias Rangamar said in an email to Saipan Tribune.
Rangamar, in a separate email to Saipan Tribune, said the facility will be the venue for the qualifying tournaments for the 2014 All Schools Championships. The series of qualifiers will start on March 24 and will run for one month in time for the tournament proper, which will be held from May 8 to 19. Qualifying tournaments will be done by zones and are open in the U8, U10, U12, U14, andU18 age groups. Schools can enter as many students in the qualifiers, but slots in the championships are limited.
Representatives of interested schools are advised to attend a meeting this Friday at 4pm at the conference room of the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
