The Family & Youth Enhancement Program-Youth Services Section of the Division of Youth Services announced yesterday the ongoing after-school program at the Kagman Community Center.
The program kicked off with an open house on Dec. 16 and is scheduled on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2:30pm to 5:30pm. The program now has over 40 registered youth participants catering to students from the Kagman area, including student volunteers who are providing assistance to complete their school required community hours.
Aside from homework/school project sessions, the program also provides for youth prevention activities that focus on literacy, art and music, career opportunities and cultural demonstrations.
Future program content will include healthy living through partnerships with the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. “Let’s Move Marianas” and Northern Marianas College “Children Health Living” programs well as a variety of youth empowerment topics.
A special acknowledgement goes out to partners including the Kagman schools for participant recruitment, IT&E for internet services, Joeten-Kiyu Public Library for the weekly Bookmobile services and Chacha Oceanview Middle School shop class students for constructing window seats, tables, benches and book shelves as additional resource for the center.
