The Public School System has cancelled all ongoing school leagues as a result of the recent surge of COVID-19 cases in the community.

According to Nick Gross, PSS athletic director, currently all PSS athletic program activities are cancelled until further notice due to PSS’ closure of schools through March 27.

PSS resumed 100% remote learning effective Monday and will carry on for 14 days as a result of the recent surge of COVID-19 positive cases identified in the community.

One of the events that were canceled was the 2021 Middle School Grass Volleyball League that kicked off just two weeks ago.

“It is with a heavy heart that I inform [all] that the remaining volleyball events have been canceled until further notice due to the PSS closure. We will also have to cancel the planned double-elimination tournament scheduled for March 26-27,” Gross said.

The league was set to enter its double-elimination tournament from March 26 to March 27.

Gross said he will do all he can to bring back the league once the situation clears up but for now, the safety of the students and staff are the priority.

“I will do all I can to salvage the remainder of the season, but the safety of the kids, officials, and our community are my current concerns,” he said.

In related news, Saipan International School has also cancelled its Student Council Tennis Tournament that was supposed to kick off this Thursday.

Last Saturday, the Rollers Basketball Association also canceled its 2021 Spring Madness league until further notice as a result of the identified community cluster of cases.
