The CNMI Scholarship Office is reporting an increase in its number of applicants in 2019. Office administrator Rose Camacho reported to the scholarship board that they have received a total of 1,031 total applicants in 2019; the office reported around 700 or 800 applicants in prior years. In 2018, the office saw this number jump to over 1,000 applicants—its highest number to date.

In her report, Camacho said that 191 applications have been approved as of last Monday, 65 applications are pending, seven applications have been denied, and 19 applications are awaiting follow-up.

The 19 applications are still being checked as the scholarship office is still verifying some information about the applicants.

The office offers financial aid for high school, undergraduate, trades school, graduate, and post-graduate programs. Most of their programs focus on undergraduates, post-graduates, and graduate students.

The common criteria require students to have a 2.75 grade point average but other programs provide incentives for those who reach 3.5 GPA and above.
