Scheduled water service interruption on Capital Hill
There will be a scheduled water service interruption scheduled for Monday, Oct. 12, 2020, from 8am to 12pm for customers in the following areas: Capital Hill 1200 Block, Isa Drive from the Retirement Building south toward the Kagman Road intersection to include the Talafofo and Egigi Drive.
This is due two service lateral leaks located in the Marshall Loop area across the former Esco’s Bakery. Water operators of the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. will be performing leak repairs in efforts to minimize non-revenue water loss. Water service to the affected areas will resume soon after.
For the safety of the men and women at the jobsite, proceed with caution and/or take alternative routes when travelling by the area.
Meanwhile, some portions of Saipan experienced an emergency power service interruption yesterday that occurred at 9:22am, which affected Kiya 2, 3, 4 and Feeder 4 and Feeder 7.
The cause of the outage was due to an overcurrent ground as a result of high voltage conductors making contact in the high winds on Chalan Monsignor Guerrero Road fronting the Kiya Substation and tripping the Kiya 3 Circuit. This vault inevitably triggered a low frequency and disconnected the Aggreko Power Plant, tripping Feeder 4 and 7, which includes Lower Base, Sadog Tasi, Capital Hill, As Quina (Wireless), Mt. Tapochao, Talafofo, 1-Denni, Agag, As Teo, Papago, entire Kagman, Lower Base, Tanapag, As Mahetog, Achugao, San Roque, As Matuis, Marpi, As Lito, Chalan Monsignor Martinez Road, Toftotville, Koblerville, Afetnas, San Antonio, Fina Sisu and Chalan Piao, Gualo Rai, Chinatown, Garapan and Chalan Kiya. Power to the affected areas were fully restored at around 10:30am yesterday morning after CUC operators were able to re-energize the engines.
Water and wastewater services were not affected during this outage. CUC operators are currently monitoring the power plant’s engines and are working with the Power Division on scheduling an emergency power outage for the proper installation of the inefficiently installed distribution lines that caused the power outage yesterday. Updates will follow as soon as they are available.
CUC continues to work diligently to minimize any inconvenience to its customers. For more information, contact the CUC Customer Call Center (664-4282) or monitor our Facebook page for the latest updates (https://www.facebook.com/CommonwealthUtilitiesCorporation/). (PR)
