Scheduled power, water interruptions
There will be two scheduled power interruptions on Saturday, May 19.
The first one will affect Chalan Pale Arnold Road in China Town from 5am to 10pm. Two power poles will be replaced. No water well or wastewater lift station will be affected.
The next power interruption will affect the Delgado Drive on Upper Navy Hill from 7am to 12pm. Five power poles will be replaced. No water well or wastewater lift station will be affected.
The purpose of the power interruptions is to de-energize primary lines to allow the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. and its contractor to safely replace seven wooden poles with concrete ones. The project is part of CUC’s ongoing Hazard Mitigation Project that entails the replacement of 787 wooden poles with concrete poles throughout Saipan.
Of the 787 wooden poles to be replaced, 477 have been made by CUC and its contractor. Future public advisories indicating the date, time, and location of impending power interruptions will be made accordingly for public notification.
Because of the scale of work that will be performed, CUC asks travelers to take alternate routes or to exercise caution when driving through the affected areas.
Water outage
There will be a scheduled water service interruption on Thursday, May 17, from 8am to 5pm, affecting Kannat Tabla, Fina Sisu, portions of As Lito and As Perdido, Chalan Laulau Middle Road and Beach Road.
CUC’s contractor, AIC Marianas, Inc. will be installing a by-pass connection on the transmission line. Therefore, the water supply will be required to be temporarily terminated to perform the installation. This line supplies the Kannat Tabla tank and new NMC tank. As a result of the new installation, a more reliable water system will be provided to the community. Regular water service hours will resume as scheduled below for the following areas:
• Thursday, May 17, 2018, 5pm: Kannat Tabla, Fina Sisu, portions of As Lito and As Perdido.
• Friday, May 18, 2018, 6am-10am (as per regular water schedule hours): Chalan Laulau (Beach Road and Middle Road).
CUC continues to work diligently to minimize any inconvenience to its customers. For more information, contact the CUC Customer Call Center (664-4282) or monitor our Facebook page for the latest updates (https://www.facebook.com/CommonwealthUtilitiesCorporation/). (PR)
