There will be scheduled power interruptions today and tomorrow.

Today, June 22, the outage will affect Susupe and Chalan Kanoa from 7am to 12pm. It will cover Shirley’s Restaurant and Chalan Kanoa Drive. No water well or wastewater lift station will be affected.

On Saturday, June 23, the outage will occur in Tanapag, from 5am to 10am, affecting San Roque and As Matuis. All water wells in San Roque and As Matuis will be affected. All lift stations in San Roque and As Matuis will also be affected.

That same day, June 23, from 1pm to 5pm, the power outage will occur in Oleai. The Saipan Mayor’s Office will be affected. All water wells and wastewater lift stations in San Roque and As Matuis will be affected.

The purpose of these power interruptions is to de-energize utility lines and allow Commonwealth Utilities Corp. and its contractor to safely replace wood poles with concrete poles. The project tasks are part of CUC’s ongoing Hazard Mitigation Project that focuses on strengthening and hardening CUC’s power distribution system through the replacement of 787 wooden poles with concrete poles. Of the 787 wooden poles to be replaced, 696 pole replacements have been made by CUC and its contractor.

Because of the scale of work that will be performed, CUC asks travelers to take alternate routes or to exercise caution when driving through the working area.
