Say Hey! program to honor 2 ex-CNMI residents
Two CNMI residents will be joining 38 other professionals of color who will be recognized on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, as a Say Hey! honoree.
The Say Hey! series honors professionals of color who have recently relocated to Oregon or Southwest Washington and helps them connect with the region’s community.
Lucia Blanco-Maratita and Jazmine Anastacio will be representing the CNMI at the event.
Blanco-Maratita, a former Board of Education member, is originally from Tinian and moved to Oregon on July 2016 where she works in public service.
Anastacio went to school at Grace Christian Academy where she was involved in sports and moved to Oregon in August 2016 where she is a member of the Campus Compact of Oregon.
The quarterly Say Hey! event brings together business and public sector leaders, community organization representatives, and other individuals to help make honorees feel welcome and more immersed in their new community.
While Oregon is currently almost 84 percent white, the ethnic landscape of the United States and Oregon is shifting. As a result, future employees and stakeholders will likely demand that companies embrace diversity.
Say Hey! is a program under a nonprofit organization called Partners in Diversity. PiD operates as an affiliate of the Portland Business Alliance Charitable Institute that seeks to address employers’ critical needs for achieving and empowering a workforce that reflects the rapidly changing demographics of the Pacific Northwest.
